Choosing Your Halloween Costume, Are you Going to Be Good or Evil
When thinking about Halloween costume ideas there is one important thing you need to ask yourself first.
Will I be good? ……Or will I be evil?
It all sounds a bit like something from a Dirty Harry movie when he asks the crook he’s about to stick some bullets into – “you gotta ask yourself…Do I feel lucky?...well do ya, punk?”
Well if you do feel lucky and you think that opting for a good, fun, sparkly Halloween Costume idea is for you then that’s just peachy. Go with it! There are a million different costumes you can pick from – ideally you’d hop online and research it that way to save yourself time and stress. The list is endless…if I had to rattle off a few then I’d suggest any of these tried and trusted costume ideas: Fairies, Genies, Mermaids, Red Riding Hood, Pirates, Snow White, Mickey Mouse, SpongeBob or anything from the good old Superhero range.
Now on the other hand, you may decide on opting for more sinister Halloween Costume ideas.
If so – then that’s easy peasy. And usually, in my humble opinion - much more fun!
For starters, just about any costume you can think of can be transformed into its evil counterpart, purely for Halloween purposes of course. You don’t have to start feeling all guilty and weird, like you’re betraying your trusted pretty pink Fairy costume by dropping it for a naughty Wicked Witch of the West costume instead. Usually it’s just a case of changing the makeup and accessories around…improvising a little….tweaking things a bit.
For example, I helped my sister get ready for a Halloween costume party her boss was having last year. As it was supposed to be a posh kind of crowd she thought dressing up as Princess Diana would be rather tasteful and so awfully nice. You don’t get much nicer than a princess after all! My sister’s hair was luckily ideal for this role – short, thick and blonde so the rest was simple. Anyway, she stood there all ready to go in her shimmery, white evening gown and matching long elbow-length gloves….typical of what Lady Di would wear to an important function. Including tiara perched on top of her perfectly cloned Diana hairdo and……... BORING!!...we both said out loud together.
We got to it. I got out my son’s art box and found suitable blood-coloured paint and duly splashed it all over her beautiful regal frock.….we teased her hair up so she looked traumatised (yet vixen-like)….. I broke up bits of plastic wineglass and stuck them onto her made-up face so it looked like chards of glass from imaginary car wreckage….and we ripped a giant slit down the side of her dress to reveal a leg with gashes and more blood and guts protruding from beneath.
Voila! She had been transformed into ‘Dead Di’…the Princess from the Dark side.
Oh absolutely it was thoughtless and bad taste but I tell you what…. she was the most unique one at the party and everyone wanted their photo taken with Lady Diana – blood or no blood!
But hang on….are you sure you want to be the Bad fairy? Maybe your little voice is telling you not to….it feels wrong…it doesn’t suit me…I’M A GOOD PERSON FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!
If that’s the case and you really cant come to grips with any of the Halloween Costume ideas from the nasty pile – then pop your shiny, pink wings back on and be the loveliest….and perhaps the cheekiest Good fairy you can be. Just like the good person you know you are.
Well aren’t you, punk?
